CHU de Montpellier

The Montpellier University Hospital (CHU de Montpellier) is the referral healthcare institution for the Occitanie region. With more than 2,600 beds, the organization welcomes a continuous flow of patients from the region as well as from across France. In addition to its role in providing patient care, the institution also plays a central role in training healthcare professionals through internationally recognized teaching and research programs.

Since December 2023, CHU de Montpellier and MoveWORK have been working together on a digital transformation project, specifically focused on tracking hospital cleaning and disinfection (bionettoyage). With this initiative, the Montpellier institution once again demonstrates its commitment to innovation, achieving a major advance in hospital management. The discovery of the MoveWORK Flow platform gave the project a new dimension, and its rollout has now begun.

Digitalization and traceability of hospital cleaning and disinfection (bionettoyage) at CHU de Montpellier

The origins of the project

For years, CHU de Montpellier has been a leading institution in medical and hospital innovation. To streamline workflows and improve working conditions for its staff, the institution chose MoveWORK to computerize and digitize the management of hospital cleaning and disinfection (bionettoyage) interventions.

The bionettoyage traceability project is a response to several operational observations:

  • Working conditions: Housekeeping staff (ASH) must be equipped with operational tools that are simple to use, ergonomic, and that make their daily work easier
  • Organizational efficiency: Relations between care units and the bionettoyage department need to be streamlined
  • Quality of services: Tracking and evaluating services must make it possible to meet health and certification requirements
  • Sustainable development: Paper-based tracking must be reduced, or even eliminated entirely

Context, structure and organization
of the bionettoyage department

Cleaning and disinfection (bionettoyage) services at CHU de Montpellier are shared between two entities: an external service provider and a dedicated in-house department.

The bionettoyage department at CHU de Montpellier is made up of 350 specialized staff members. These teams handle the cleaning of highly technical areas, such as care units, emergency departments, and more.

Internal bionettoyage services are carried out across 3 operational zones, each comprising several hospital and medico-social facilities:

  • Lapeyronie–Arnaud de Villeneuve site
  • Gui-de-Chauliac and Saint-Éloi site
  • Gero-Psychiatry site: Bellevue, Balmès, and Colombière

In each sector, hospital housekeeping staff (ASH) are coordinated by local supervisors, who in turn report to the head of bionettoyage at the hospital.

MoveWORK Healthcare: the digital solution for 360° traceability of hospital cleaning and disinfection

CHU de Montpellier was looking for a bionettoyage traceability solution that was simple to use and quick to deploy. Beyond the technological aspects, support, deployment monitoring, and team training were essential elements.

Given these requirements, MoveWORK positioned itself as the ideal local software provider. With the MoveWORK Flow solution,

the hospital not only benefits from a solution tailored to its needs, but also leverages local resources to promote progress and efficiency in healthcare.

MoveWORK's bionettoyage traceability offering

To meet the specifications set by CHU de Montpellier, MoveWORK developed a tailor-made solution dedicated to the healthcare sector:

  • The MoveWORK Flow platform, a fully integrated, modular, cross-functional solution for managing and overseeing all bionettoyage activities.
  • Simple, user-friendly apps designed for each user profile: housekeeping staff (ASH), local supervisors, and caregivers.
  • Lightweight, durable mobile devices that can be mounted on cleaning carts, with ergonomics suited to the task and no need for constant recharging.
  • A user support and training plan, with adoption rate monitoring.
  • Integration with existing IT solutions and ERP systems.

Traceability of bionettoyage and ASH interventions

To ensure precise traceability of activities, MoveWORK developed a building editor module. This module made it possible to digitize every area of the buildings and provides a real-time digital view of CHU de Montpellier. Every action is geolocated via QR code, mobile location tracking, sensors, or NFC chips. To maintain a sustainable reference database, an interface with CHU de Montpellier’s CMMS software was also developed.

Smooth workflows and protocol compliance

Through several workshops, intervention pathways were mapped out and then digitized in the form of digital workflows. Combined with location tracking, these workflows let housekeeping staff (ASH) know exactly where to intervene and precisely which tasks to carry out. At the same time, they ensure perfect traceability of how actions unfold within the facility.

By defining rule-based criteria such as workload, absence, or completion of a protocol, the workflows make it possible to dispatch actions to the appropriate teams.
